Grade 10-12

Patterns of Total Body Connectivity: Head-Tail Connection 

In this lesson, students explored one out of six patterns of total body connectivity: head-tail connection. Students explored varied movements that incorporate head-tail connection from floor work, to center, to across the floor and eventually through performance phrase.

Fundamentals of Hip Hop

In this lesson, students were introduced to Hip Hop. I created learning activities that gave students a brief introduction into the basics of Hip Hop such as swagger, groove, bounce and rhythm. Students were able to let go and creating handshakes with their peers.

Exploring Choreography through Dance Elements 

In these lessons, students developed their own artistic expression through group choreography utilizing Dance Elements. In the overall unit, students explored each Dance Element through miniature choreographic tasks that scaffolded their learning to foster their readiness to create a group phrase that used all Dance Elements as an influence for movement.

Cultivating Individuality & Community Through Dance 

In this unit, students develop an understanding of individuality and community as they explore space, time and energy through dance. Lessons are age-apprioriate, have interdisciplinary connections and build community within the class.

Embodying the legacy of Rudolf Laban through Effort 

In this unit, students will learn and embody the dance legacy of Rudolf Laban by using Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and Dance Notation. Students will explore what Rudolf Laban called a free dance technique through embodying eight Effort qualities. Working in pairs, students will notate and create a movement phrase that embodies four out of eight Effort qualities. **Disclaimer: unit created for class assignment**
