 Standards-Based Teaching: Danielson Framework

The Danielson Framework for Teaching was developed to provide educators with criteria on how to be effective in and outside of the classroom. I uphold this framework in all aspects of my teaching to provide my students with coherent and effective instruction. Please see below to find links to my teaching and professional artifacts.

Domain 1: Planning & Preparation: Effective teachers take time to coherently plan and design their lessons. When designing lessons they keep in mind their knowledge of content and students to guide their pedagogical approaches. With differentiated instruction, the variety of assessments designed would keep the students' learning needs in mind and align with the learning segments to demonstrate student understanding. (Danielson, 2013).

Domain 2: The Classroom Environment: Effective teachers make sure their space is organized in a way that is best suitable for student learning. The organization of the space and the development of classroom routines and rules help engage student learning in a safe and inclusive environment. An effective teacher's classroom environment is filled with respect and rapport amongst everyone. Managing classroom procedures and student behavior  helps to create a positive environment that is suitable for learning. (Danielson, 2013)

Domain 3: Instruction: When entering a classroom of an effective teacher you can expect to see all students engaged in learning. Effective teachers communicate coherently to ensure students' engagement and understanding of learning episodes. To accomplish this, a teacher must use an array of questions and discussion techniques, and be flexible and responsive in instruction to accommodate student needs. (Danielson, 2013).

Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities: Effective teachers are constantly striving to continue learning through professional opportunities. This includes participating in a professional community, going to professional development opportunities, showing professionalism, reflecting on teaching, maintaining accurate student records and communicating with families. (Danielson, 2013)
